If you are like us here at the Jacksonville Public Library, a good book sale makes your book-loving heart very happy! Here are 3 reasons why you should join us for The Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library's 3 day Big Bag Book Sale.

Young men who play on both sides of the ball in the fall helped to load boxes of books and other items onto carts, which then were brought outside the library and loaded onto trucks for transport to the site of the sale.

The used book sale, which runs in conjunction with the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival, will begin with a members-only day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 6. Memberships to Friends of Rodman Library can be purchased at the door. The sale then will be open to the public from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 7; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 8-10. The sale on Aug. 10 is a fill-a-bag, make-a-donation day.

In the upcoming Friends of the Upper Arlington Library quarterly book sale (Nov. 17- Dec. 1), there will be absolutely no presales to book dealers, special Friends of the Library members, or anyone else.

When the doors open at 1 p.m., everyone will have equal access to all the books, DVDs, CDs, VHS tapes, records, etc. on sale. The only distinction we make is on the last day of the sale, when Friends members can buy a grocery bag full of sale items for $5 and nonmembers can buy a bag for $10.

It takes the ongoing efforts of the local community to keep the Book Sale going strong year after year. Over 300 volunteers collectively put in over 14,000 hours towards making the sale work. Some also donate baked goods and other items to keep the volunteers fueled up for the gargantuan task of sorting all the items. Community members can help by donating books and by joining the Friends themselves.

Although the Friends accept book donations for most of the year, there is currently a hold on donations until November 10th, so there is no continued influx while the sale is finalized. After the hold is lifted, you can drop your books off at the Book Sale building for the Spring Sale in May. Guidelines for donation are on the Book Sale website at booksale.org. You can contact the Book Sale at 607-272-2223 if you need more information or to make special arrangements.

Buying books from the Book Sale is a great way to expand your own library or get bargain priced holiday gifts. Many items are in great condition, despite being used, and where else will you find hundreds of thousands of items for $4.50 or less? The Book Sale is one of those exceptional Ithaca events that help make our community a great place to live!

The Library accepts material donations of books, videos, CDs, etc. Items not added to the collection will be given to the Friends of the Library book sale. For more information, contact the Registration Desk.

Friends of the Arlington Public Library is a non profit group that holds bi-annual book sales, and sells books on the internet to financialy support the Arlington Public Library. We recieve the no- longer in circulation books from the library, plus book donations from the public for the contents of these sales.Arlington has a large public library system, and we have a need for volunteers to assist with all the tasks involved with the sorting, storage, moving, set up and take down, as well as the sale itself.

Amicus briefs for the parties addressed various policy ramifications -- for example, supporters of the book publisher argued that the decision will cause them to avoid sales of books to foreign customers at prices they may possibly be able to afford, thus hindering the free flow of information. Opponents of the publishers argued that the ruling will harm the U.S. economy by providing an incentive for copyright owners (including brand owners with copyrighted elements to their goods) to move their manufacturing overseas, and will create risk and uncertainty for the important industries of library lending, used bookstores, and even the retail sale of admittedly authentic goods at discount. 2ff7e9595c
